Computing Implementation

 

The National Curriculum provides a structure and skill development for the computing curriculum being taught throughout the school, which is linked to and taught through STEM Primary Teach Computing Curriculum and the Cornerstones themed topics to provide a creative scheme of work, which reflects a balanced programme of study. The full programme of study (Year 1-6) is taught over a two year rolling cycle: Year A and B. The computing National Curriculum identifies three key areas in which the children should be taught: information technology, computer science and digital literacy, 

 

The majority of our computing learning is embedded across the curriculum; using technology to demonstrate learning in other subjects. Some lessons will be timetabled to a session each week, however our approach will allow for flexibility. The timetabled computing session will focus on one of two elements: An explicit computer science lesson or a tinkering session. A tinkering session looks at introducing a new app or tool and giving children opportunity to experiment and familiarise themselves with the different elements and tools before it can be applied in a more focused approach across the curriculum.

  • Ask the WHY behind their learning and not just the HOW

  • Discuss, reflect and appreciate the impact computing has on their learning, development and well being

  • Find the right balance with technology to facilitate an effective education and a healthy life-style. 

  • Showcase, share, celebrate and publish their work as skilful computer scientists and active participants in a digital world
