Science Intent

          We

  • marvel
  • enjoy
  • think
  • persevere
  • recall
  • achieve

in our investigations as Super Scientists.

           We

  • provide children with the opportunity to understand the world around them.
  • give them an exciting context to apply many of the other skills and disciplines they learn at school.

The children will be taught:

  • knowledge and understanding
  • working scientifically
  • the application of science

Science Implementation

Love to Investigate

Two exciting units of work will be planned and taught each term. Each classroom will be carrying out practical investigations based on a range of scientific questions.

This creative scheme of work, which reflects a balanced programme of study, has a clear progression in skills and knowledge from EYFS to year 6.

In EYFS each CoEL covers aspects of science. The FS children are encouraged to be inquisitive, observe and question what they know about the world around them. They investigate, make links and test ideas through play.

The full programme of study (Year 1-6) is taught in mixed classes over a two-year rolling cycle: Year A and B.

Science Impact

We aim for our children to:

  • Love to investigate exciting questions to discover and understand the scientific method

  • Marvel at the awe and wonder of how science emulates throughout every aspect of their daily lives

  • Enjoy their Eureka moments of success!

  • Think critically, ask questions and use their metacognitive learning skills

  • Recall the rich learning experiences

  • Persevere and embrace challenges

  • Achieve their full potential in science

To ultimately gain the knowledge and skills they need to become super scientists

  • A clear progression of children’s work and teachers’ expectations will be reflected in their science books

  • Children are accurately assessed recorded on Cornerstones

  • Pupils will be able to articulate about their learning in science
